Symposium 21.11.2024: ALCOHOL – Cure or Curse?
The symposium featured an international panel of experts: Prof. Dirk von Lewinski, Prof. Jannis Mouzas, and Prof. Nicolai Worm, specialists in cardiovascular health, cancer, and nutrition. The lectures held the attention of over 100 participants in the room and 20 more via livestream. The scientific insights presented had to withstand the challenge of being clearly explained.
Firstly, alcohol is not the same—beer, cider, wine, and spirits have different effects on health. Wine, particularly red wine, has the most positive impact on heart health. Secondly, the experts recommend 1/8 to 2/8 liters of wine per day for women and 2/8 to 3/8 liters of (red) wine for men, with one alcohol-free day each week. Thirdly, it’s important to drink the same amount of water for every glass of wine. Fourthly, wine with meals is better than drinking it alone. Fifthly, the Mediterranean diet is the best approach for healthy aging. Sixthly, W&G Wine & Health recommends red wines with health-promoting compounds.
