Weinviertel and Red Wine?
The Weinviertel is widely known and loved for its white wines, particularly Grüner Veltliner, the region’s flagship variety and the foundation of Austria’s first DAC designation. Red wines are a rarity in this area.
However, thanks to Josef Pleil, a selection of Weinviertel reds made their way to W&G Wine & Health for analysis. Despite the natural polyphenol degradation in older wines, the submitted 2018 vintages still achieved one to two points on the W&G Quality Seal.
The following wines were recognized:
• Cuvée Sandbergen 2016 – Schödl Family
• Excellent Reserve 2018 – R&A Pfaffl
• Cuvée Reserve 2021 – Weingut Pleil
Congratulations! Keep up the great work!
