Wine & Health – On the Trail of Phenols
Living longer and aging healthily—this is the challenge for medicine, the pharmaceutical industry, nutrition, wellness, and lifestyle. It concerns all of us, at every age, and accompanies us throughout our lives.
The vision of a single pill that solves everything will remain an illusion. Instead, it’s about the small, necessary steps we take every day.
And one of these not-so-small steps is called "phenols."
We have already extensively reported on phenols in red wine. Now, they have also been found in olive oil.
The bitter tones and the scratchy sensation in the throat are indicators of phenols in olive oil. In recent years, efforts were made to remove this bitterness through crossbreeding—because it was considered unpleasant.
Today, we know just how important and valuable this distinct taste really is.
By the way: Healthy olive oil is yet another piece of evidence supporting the superiority of the Mediterranean diet—with olive oil and red wine as essential elements.
And the best part? This is something we can incorporate into our own lifestyle, too!
Wine & Health will continue following this topic.
