What opponents of alcohol keep quiet
The GBD study – the Global Burden of Disease Study 2020 – was the first to take sex (m/f), age and regional origin into account when assessing alcohol's impact on health. It was reported in The Lancet – an internationally recognised medical-scientific journal of the highest standing – (2022; 400: 185–235). For Central Europe, the result is: up to the age of 30, men and women should almost entirely abstain from alcohol — meaning less than one drink per day. From the age of 30, the J-curve applies: moderate alcohol consumption of between 1 and 3 drinks per day can have positive effects on health. Thanks to its polyphenols and flavonoids, wine holds a special position; it differs significantly from beer, spirits and other alcoholic drinks. These findings have so far gone unmentioned in mainstream reporting — even though they were established by the same experts and authors as the first study, according to which there is no health-promoting amount of alcohol.
